Many people still live with their parents while they are in
college. I do and I like it to an extent because I have money and I have them
to keep me on track with my school. But, I think that when you are in college
you should live on you own and be on your own. It gives you more freedom and
you get to do what you want as long as you are responsible about what you do. It’s
hard to live at home sometimes because your parents are always on you back with
what time you are going to be home that night, or what you are doing all the
time. Living on you own gives you a different look on life. It teaches you how
to manage your money and how to fend for yourself. Doing it while you are in
college is the best way to do this. You can have your parents still behind you
to fall back on in case you struggle at first. I would like to live on my own
and get out of how my parents treat me like I’m still a little kid. I was
always responsible and I never stayed out later than when I was supposed to. So
shouldn’t I get some breathing room now that I am in college? I don’t think
that some parents realize that if you move out you would be doing the things
that you are asking them to do without asking them. So shouldn’t they give you
a little more freedom? So is moving out in college the right thing to do?

“Accident” Advertisement from Apple (Mac vs. PC):
In this commercial the argument is a Mac computer vs. a PC
computer. They argue how the Mac is better because if someone steps on a cord
the Mac’s cord is magnetic so it pops off. Whereas the PC’s cord is a plug and
it will just knock the computer onto the ground a ruin it. They also say how Mac has thought everything
through so that it can’t be damaged easily.
They show this by having an old guy in a wheel chair with cast all over be
the PC, and they Mac is a younger guy undamaged and happy. They used a younger
guy to show that the Mac is a better choice saying it can move faster and it is
a newer thing. They used an older man as the PC to show that it moves slower
and that it is an older thing. Kids these days like the newer “younger” things.
In this argument the audience is a younger generations or college students that
are looking to buy a computer. They show
this by using a younger man and an older man as well. I think that this is a
great way to argue that Mac is a better choice than a PC. They use very clever ways to determine which
is better and they use the same thing in most all of their commercials.

Gas Prices
Over spring break I bought a new car. I was on the hunt for
a new one for a while. I had my heart set on getting a 2010 Mazda 3 for under $13,000
with under 50,000 miles. In today economy that is a very hard thing to find,
mainly because of gas prices. With gas
prices going up to almost $4 a gallon people are deciding to turn in their big
trucks and SUVs to get better more fuel efficient cars. Should gas prices really be this high? Personally
I don’t think they should. I almost have to get another job to pay for my gas
and my incurrence. Maybe we could look at ways to lower the price
of gas. Maybe we could stop driving as
much and ride bikes from place to place, or maybe even walk. This would bring the demand for gas down and
the supply up, so they would have to lower the price back down. Is Obama part
of the issue that gas prices are too high? I don’t know. I think that he could
be part of the issue, and he should do something about it. I still remember when I first got my license
and gas was about $2 a gallon and we got outraged when it got as high as $3. We
all hear stories about it all the time on the news and everyone was going crazy
buying bikes and finding new ways of transportation. Well what are we doing now that is it $4…..nothing.
You don’t see half as many news stories on it anymore and I feel like people are
treating this as less of an issue, when it clearly is a huge issue.

I read the article Obama:
(it is unacceptable that the United States ranks 15th in the world
in broadband adoption”. The article was very interesting. I didn’t even
know that we were ranked 15th to me that is a little bit
unacceptable as well. We were the people
that created the internet and we should really use it to our advantages. We
should be able to use the internet to every advantage that we can. We should even use it to connect with other
countries easier as well. There are so
many different ways to use the internet that we might not even know about. Obama says that he will change how we use the
internet but I haven’t seen much change since he has become president. In fact
no one has seemed that many changes since he has became president. In my
opinion thought, there is really a lot of too many other things to worry about
then how we use the internet. So we
should really think were the priorities are and what we should really focus on…….the
internet ……or how much the world is in dept.

Troops Overseas
Do you think the troops should still be overseas fighting this war??? In my opinion i don't think they should. My dad is in the air national guard. He has been sent overseas three times, and if they continue to stay over there he will probably have to go over again. Going through this is the hardest thing to do. I still remember the first time he went over seas it was miserable we could only talk to him for 5 mins a piece and if we werent home when he called then we didn't get to talk to him for that week. The second time he went over we missed Thanksgiving, Christmas and new years. It was so hard not having your dad there for the most important holidays of the year. Having you dad or husband overseas is terrible and they miss so much in each others life's. For example they miss maybe the birth of their first child and there first steps. At least now they have set up web cams and they don't have to miss as much. I think that we should have never entered this war in the first place. It was just a battle that can never be won we are just going back and forth and it seems like every time they say we are going to pull out it never happens.

On Facebook, Biggest Threat to Your Private Data May Be You
This article is very convincing and has some great arguments about why facebook is getting worse and worse. In my opinion facebook should be a place where people can connect with there peers from high school. After high school you lose touch with some of your friends, but facebook helps you keep in touch with most of them. I do agree on how people put way to much out there about themselves. People don't wanna know what you had for breakfast or when you have to leave your house. This just give people that you don't know the right to stalk you. If you don't want people getting into your personal life then don't put it on the Internet. But, facebook is still a great way to keep in touch with old friends. You have to draw a line somewhere when it comes to adding friends though. You cant just add every one that sends you a friend request. So in conclusion i think that facebook can be a good thing but it cant also be a bad thing. You have to know where you draw the line and figure out what you need to keep private and what you want to share on facebook.

Work!
I work at the East Peoria Kohl's, and to me it seems like they don't have enough people on the floor at night. They expect us to do everything when there isn't enough time to get it all done. I work in Ms. Jr. and Men's, there are five sections that needed to be folded at night. They expect three of us to do all five sections and then turn around and run our fitting rooms, and they want it done all in four hours. Really its less then four hours because then we have a fifteen minute break too. On days that we are slow i think that three people can handle it, but on days that we are busy they need to at least have four people on the floor and one on fitting rooms. Another thing about work that i don't like is that we have to push credits. I feel bad asking people to sign up for a credit card when you know that they cant get one or don't have the ability to pay for it. Sometimes if i see a person and i don't think they can afford it i wont ask, even though we are suppose to ask everyone that comes through the line. I feel like they expect us to do way to much, for way to little. Which brings up the question of should they hire minimum wage or should they just keep it where its at. In my opinion i think they should. With everything like gas prices and the price of living going up there is no way a person in college working a part time job can afford to pay for a car gas and there phone without having to ask for help from someone.

The article Education Funding: Fallow the Money is a good argument. It helps you understand what some of our taxes that we pay are going toward, and how they aren't going towards the things we may want them to, such as education. They talk about TEF and how that plays a role in how the schools are funded. According to the text on average Americans pay twelve dollars for every one hundred dollars they make, but if they make $1 million annually they only pay five dollars for every hundred dollars. It goes on to say how this isn't fair because if you make more money you should have to pay more in taxes not less. It goes on to tell you how your taxes are used and how most of them should be going to the schools but they arent. This is a great article to read and get information about how are taxes are, and what they are going toward.
